Welcome to Year 4

 

We are looking forward to seeing you in September and can’t wait to start our new exciting learning.

 

Your class teachers will be Miss Dunbar and Miss Khatun

 

In Year 4, each day will start with a morning task to get your brains warmed up while we take turns to wash our hands and prepare for the day ahead.

 

One of the teachers will always be there to welcome you in so remember to say good morning and share a smile.

 

This is our class reader.

It is a gripping adventure based on a true story. Why not try one of these other adventures for yourself over the summer holidays?

 

In English, we will be learning to:

  • Write letters as another person.
  • Write diary entries.
  • Write non-fiction texts about exciting animals.
  • Use inverted commas accurately.
  • Use a wider range of punctuation in your writing with confidence.
  • Use a greater array of descriptive features such as similes, metaphors and personification.
  • Edit and improve our work.

 

In maths, we will be learning to:

  • Compare and order numbers up to 1000.
  • Round numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
  • Count in 1000’s.
  • Represent numbers to 10,000.
  • Partition 10’s, 100’s, 1000’s and 10,000’s.
  • Find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more or less than any given number.
  • Round numbers to the nearest 1000.
  • Count in 25’s.
  • Begin to use negative numbers

 

In topic, we will be studying the Romans.  We will learn to:

  • Use an increasing range of common words and phrases relating to the passing of time.
  • Sequence events for periods studied on a timeline.
  • Use terms related to the period and begin to date events.
  • Look at evidence available and begin to evaluate the usefulness of different sources.
  • Use evidence to build a picture of the past.

 

In science, we will be learning to:

  • Recognise that living things can be classified in a variety of ways.
  • Recognise the environments change and can become dangerous.
  • Describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans
  • Identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions.
  • Create fair test to investigate a range of different topics.

 

You will have homework each week, including a reading book, maths and spellings.

 

Don’t forget to bring your book bag every day and change your reading book every week.

 

You will also need the correct P.E. kit twice a week for P.E. We will have PE on Tuesday and Thursday.
